What does 2009 the lunar year of the cow, mean for community organising work?? Does it mean more hard work, because of the global economic slow down? the food crisis? and more wars and conflicts between nations, peoples, and communities of people?

Or does this global scenario mean more opportunities for us to organise our communities and to unite the people to overcome difficulties? As for me in Malaysia, things are predicted to become a bit gloomy and workers are anticipated to be retrenched, and price of food and other items will rise in price!

My feeling is that whatever the situations hold for us, community organising will always prevail because these are the times when people need to take control of the little resources they have and make the best out of it! And to do they they have to be organised, in body heart, mind and spirit! What do you think organisers???

i really agree with you Jo Hann; these would be the times when we would need community organizing the most; they are going to be the most difficult times, probably, we have lived in our lives so far. So we'll need to make lots of efforts to organize communities. In fact we should start from right now preparing for tomorrow then waiting for things to get worst and then start our interventions.

in my opinion, grassroot people or ordinary people like affect most in such bad times like global financial crisis. For people who are well resourced might not even notice the crisis. Therefore, i think, this is the BEST TIME for us to be STRONG, Powerful as a community, in order to do so we have carefully plan, and organise the community where we work. As Jo Hann mentioned, we have to be involved with our Heart, and Spirit, otherwise we wouldn't achieve what we hope for. When i was in Australia, Arron Wood /Young Australian of the year, 2008, environmental educater/ said, in order to achieve something we have to be involved with heart, and have knowledge, and then be able to take action on it... I think, in 2007 in the CO course we also have talked about it... Heart+Knowledge+Action=Achievement /i just made it up, feel free to comment on it. hahaha/
